El Junte | Picando Alante (Película)

Picando Alante is a dramedy that reveals a profound social critique of Puerto Rico today. The celebrated Puerto Rican actors’ collective Teatro Breve presents the story of a lower-middle-class family trying to get into the business of growing and selling medical cannabis as a solution to their many financial plights. Their plans collide with reality, and everything gets complicated.

Directed by Israel Lugo, Picando Alante features performances by Marisé Álvarez, Mikephillippe Oliveros, Lourdes Quiñones, Luis Gonzaga, Lucienne Hernández, Juan Pablo Díaz, René Monclova and Cristina Soler. The film is a production of Teatro Breve and DeLuz.

During the Puerto Rico Film Festival (PRFF) 2022, Picando Alante received the Best National Film award.

“Picando Alante is the result of the creative process of a group of artists and professionals committed to doing excellent work, particularly with the development and evolution of the Puerto Rican film industry. It’s a film with its own voice, with stories where we see ourselves reflected, where we can continue exploring and expressing our identity in the cinema”, Israel Lugo, director.
