Let’s make sure Latinxs everywhere are seen and heard!
Fabiola Méndez comes to Hartford! Join Fabiola for an outstanding audiovisual experience September 18th (7:00 PM) at Charter Oak Cultural Center.
Fabiola + band will be performing songs from her latest album Afrorriqueña. The music pays tribute to the African influences in Puerto Rican culture through the poetic lens of Fabiola's artistic mind! The album draws inspiration from Puerto Rican poets: Carmen Colón Pellot, Angelamaría Dávila, Ana Teresa Toro, Mayra Santos Febres, and Yara Liceaga.
Before the band takes the stage, enjoy the screening of Negrura, a short film by Fabiola Méndez. Negrura is an audiovisual storytelling experience that showcases the stories of Afro-Latinx folks from Boston’s Latin Quarter Cultural District. The film aims to create spaces for conversations about colorism, anti-blackness, discrimination, and racism within our own Afro-Caribbean and Afro-Latinx community. Music, at the core of the project, connects our voices to provide a space for self-reflection, support, and healing!
