Jonathan Suazo + band will be performing unreleased material from his Afro-Caribbean project Ricano. With this project, Jonathan aims to instill a strong sense of self worth and empowerment for the Latin X community everywhere in the world. This will be the 1st ever glance of this project in a concert setting. Ricano is set to be recorded in 2023.

The sextet will feature Dominican Drummer/Composer Ivanna Cuesta, Puerto Rican Bassist Dan Martinez, Cuban Pianist/Composer Anibal Cruz, Puerto Rican Singer/Composer Tanicha Lopez and local guests on percussion.

Ricano is a fresh afro-caribbean experience. The music takes the audience on a cross-cultural journey that highlights many traditional styles and homeland feelings like those of Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic, within an artistic fusion container of Suazo’s many musical influences.

When? Wednesday June 8th, 2022 at (7:30pm). Doors open at (7:00pm).

Where? @CROMA Venue of the Arlington Street Church. Entrance through the public alley on Arlington Street.

Meet the artist:

Jonathan Suazo is a Multi-Genre Saxophonist / Composer / Arranger and Flow Artist. His unique Sax tone delivers lyrical melodies that melt hearts and warm souls mixed with a strong “in your face” vibrating sound that screams raw emotion. Born in San Juan Puerto Rico to a Puerto Rican mother and a Dominican father, Jonathan has been at it for a minute. He obtained his Bachelor's Degree in Jazz & Caribbean Music (Magna Cum Laude 2012) at the Conservatorio de Música de Puerto Rico, his Masters Degree in Contemporary Performance (Magna Cum Laude 2017) at Berklee College of Music (Global Jazz Institute), and he’s currently a L1 Steel Mace Flow instructor, KettleBell Flow instructor and Functional Movement Coach.

Jonathan has traveled a unique path filled with rewarding collaborations and experiences. He’s been taught/mentored by outstanding individuals such as Yoga & Alexander Technique Master Karen Langevin, Steel Mace Flow creator Leo Savage, and renowned musicians: David Sanchez, Terri Lyne Carrington, Marco Pignataro, John Patituchi, Danilo Pérez, George Garzone and Joe Lovano; Jonathan has also performed with artists such as: Paoli Mejías, ILé, Miguel Zenón, Rakalam Bob Moses, Giovanni Hidalgo, Tito Matos, Ricardo Pons, Calma Carmona, William Cepeda, Jon Secada, Pedro Capó, Obie Bermudez, Humberto Ramirez, Silverio Perez, Charlie Sepúlveda and many others.
