Meet the musicians:
Milan-based musician, Francesca Remigi (Drums) is a polyhedric drummer, an inquisitive improviser and a visionary composer from Bergamo, Italy. Winner of Nuova Generazione Jazz 2021 (I-Jazz), Francesca is known for her international collaborations in the avant-garde and free improv jazz scene featuring musicians such as Steve Lehman, Joachim Florent, Kris Davis, John Patitucci and many others, with appearances at EFG London Jazz Festival 2020, Panama Jazz Festival 2021 and Una Striscia di Terra Feconda Jazz Festival 2020.
In 2019, Francesca’s band Archipélagos won the competition All You Have to do is Play, launched by the label Emme Record Label. In January 2021, this Italian label published Francesca’s first album as a leader Il Labirinto Dei Topi. Archipélagos was also one of the three finalists at the Maastricht Jazz Awards 2020.
The BGJI Master student Francesca Remigi has also participated in many different masterclasses and artistic residencies, such as UmbriaJazz 2012, SienaJazz 2018, Banff Jazz Residency 2019 directed by Vijay Yier and Tyshawn Sorey, La Casa del Jazz Artistic Residency 2020, organized by MIDJ association.

Canadian pianist-composer Kris Davis (Piano) was voted pianist of the year in the 2020 Downbeat Critics Poll and in the 2019 Jazz Times Critics Poll. She won both composer and pianist of the year in 2021/2020 by the Jazz Journalists Association. The New York Times dubbed her as one of the top up-and-comers, saying: “One method for deciding where to hear jazz on a given night has been to track down the pianist Kris Davis.” To date, Davis has released twelve recordings as a leader. Her newest release, Diatom Ribbons, was voted jazz album of the year in the New York Times and NPR critics poll.
Davis works as a collaborator and side person with artists such as John Zorn, Terri Lyne Carrington, Craig Taborn, Tyshawn Sorey, Nick Fraser, Eric Revis, Johnathan Blake, Michael Formanek, Tony Malaby, Ingrid Laubrock, Mary Halvorson, Stephan Crump, Eric McPherson and Tom Rainey. Davis received a Doris Duke Impact award in 2015 and multiple commissions to compose new works from The Shifting Foundation, The Jazz Gallery/Jerome Foundation, and the Canada Council for the Arts. She is currently the Associate Director for the Berklee Institute of Jazz and Gender Justice and runs her music label, Pyroclastic Records.

Aretha Tillotson (Upright bass) is an Edmonton bassist who has studied at Grant MacEwan University and the University of Toronto. In Toronto, she studied with Dave Young and Jim Vivian, and with David Bowie’s “Blackstar” bassist Tim LeFebvre. She has recently participated in Ralph Alessi’s SIM clinic in Brooklyn, and is now studying in a Master’s program at Berklee’s Global Jazz Institute with Danilo Perez, Linda Oh, and Ben Street.
Some of the most notable musicians she has had the pleasure of playing with include Mike Murley, Charlie Austin and Norma Winstone. Aretha also works as a musical theatre musician, and she has performed at the Citadel Theatre’s “Hadestown” and “SIX”, and Theatre Calgary’s “The Louder We Get”.
