On July 5th at 7 PM, Andrea Cruz, a talented Puerto Rican singer, songwriter, and guitar player will be performing on Facebook Live. Cruz is an award winning singer and artist, creating her unique sound in 2014 which combines indie folk with anglo influences and Latin American sounds. Her talent as an artist and her unique sound have led to her incredible success. She takes great inspiration from her cultural background and creates a unique musical experience. Her first album in 2017 “Tejido de Laurel” reached top charts in Puerto Rico and she has since then performed in the renowned music festival SXSW in Austin, TX. Additionally she opened for Kany García in 2019 in Puerto Rico and has participated in the globally recognized Tiny Desk Concert Series by NPR Music. On July 2nd at 7 PM, Zahili Gonzalez, a talented pianist and singer, will be performing the piano on Facebook Live. Born and raised in Cuba, Zahili’s passion for piano began when she was 6 years old. Since then she has travelled all over the world and experienced various genres and collaborated with diverse artists. During this time she performed in International Jazz Festivals in Canada as well as with a pop band in Asia for 6 years. Ultimately she pursued Jazz in Berklee College of Music. She is currently a member of the Jazz Trio, MIXCLA, which aims to represent global unity and multiculturalism not only through their diverse background but also through their mix of genres from modern Cuban rumba to traditional Cha. MIXCLA won the Downbeat Magazine Latin Group outstanding performance in 2017 and the Boston Music Awards nomination for international artist of the year in 2018. On June 21st at 7pm, Eli Pabón, a dancer, lyricist, singer, instructor, educator, and percussionist will be leading us with dance moves (in Reggaeton, Dembow, and Timbaton) that we can all do together on Facebook Live. Pabón was born & raised in Boston however proudly represents her Puerto Rican heritage with her performances and musical talents. At a young age she learned to play percussion instruments as well as dance traditional folkloric and modern Latin American dances such as Bomba, Plena, Salsa, and Hip Hop, among others. She has been able to translate her strong passion for dance into a teaching opportunity for her community in Boston. Pabón is a dance and performing arts teacher at the Ellison Parks School in Boston, as well as an Artist Collective member of MetaMovements where she coordinates, hosts, and teaches workshops in the greater Boston area. Additionally she is the founder of BOMBAntillana, which aims to explore traditional Puerto Rican culture and dances through a series of workshops. On June 18th at 7PM, afro indigenous borikua and award winning choreographer, mar parrilla will be performing dance theatre on Facebook Live. parrilla is a puertorican choreographer, performer and the founding artistic director of 'danza orgánica', a contemporary dance theatre company. 'danza orgánica' was awarded the outstanding community arts award in dance due to their core foundations in social justice, community outreach, and their ability to spread anti-racist narratives through dance. parrilla continues to spread awareness on environmental and gender equality as well as racial justice and is committed to creating change through her powerful performances. mar is a Luminary artist for the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston and is a proud recipient of various grants and awards due to her talent as a dancer and her passion for creating a lasting positive impact. On June 14th at 7pm, Bajucol, a Colombian Folklore Dance group will be performing a ballet folk dance on Facebook Live. Bajucol is a non-profit organization, founded by Miguel Vargas in 1995, dedicated to entertain and inspire young people to pursue their passion for Colombian Folklore and dance. Bajucol is composed of 20 youngsters of different ages who come together for their love of dance and to represent their Latin American Identity. Bajucol not only inspires young people to pursue careers as performers, but it also aims to teach the community about Colombia’s history, heritage, and culture through expressive folkloric dances and lively performances. On June 11th at 7pm, Puerto Rican writer, performer, and educator Yara Liceaga will be presenting her poetry on Facebook Live. Liceaga is a recognized writer who has received various grants and fellowships for her poetry. She is the author of various poetry books as well as the coordinator of the multidisciplinary art series, “Poetry is Busy”. She has been writing and inspiring for years and was a columnist for the Buscapié section of Nuevo Dia, a Puerto Rican Newspaper. Today she offers creative writing, grant writing, and arts workshops in English and Spanish and aims to inspire and engage with her community.
